Science And Policy Disconnect In Himalayas

There is a disconnect between science and policy making with fact that the policy whichever exist many of them are not informed. Like Shifting cultivation is an issues in North Eastern mountain states of India, which has never ever been supported by any scientific study. The science or research agenda in general we have is not aimed at influencing policies, so the ultimate aim of any research should be that if fits in to the policy.


Started in year 2010, ‘Climate Himalaya’ initiative has been working on Mountains and Climate linked issues in the Himalayan region of South Asia. In the last five years this knowledge sharing portal has become one of the important references for the governments, research institutions, civil society groups and international agencies, those have work and interest in the Himalayas. The Climate Himalaya team innovates on knowledge sharing, capacity building and climatic adaptation aspects in its focus countries like Bhutan, India, Nepal and Pakistan.
